What OI Wiki Is Not
Note
As part of the project policy, this page is very important. Every contributor should ensure that your contributions meet the following conditions.
OI Wiki is not a place for publishing original research
As a wiki, OI Wiki is not a place for publishing original research (such as new theories and solutions, original viewpoints, self-created definitions or terms, etc.). For example:
- If you discover an unconventional solution to a problem, but you cannot prove that this solution has been applied to other problems, you should not create a separate page for it in OI Wiki.
- If you propose a new algorithm or data structure, but you cannot prove that it has been used to solve a certain class of problems in programming competitions, you should not submit it to OI Wiki.
OI Wiki is not a collection of news
As a knowledge integration site primarily in the Chinese-speaking context and focusing on programming competition content, OI Wiki emphasizes providing stable, settled, and widely recognized information.
In other words, unless it is information released by authoritative organizations (such as competition format updates released by the China Computer Federation), the content you contribute should be information that has been tested, settled, gained widespread recognition, and will not become outdated in a short period. For example:
- If you find that Dr. X has published a new algorithm somewhere and you want to add it to OI Wiki, you should observe whether it can gain widespread recognition (e.g., as a versatile and excellent solution in formal competitions) and whether it has some distinction from existing algorithms in OI Wiki.
- If you find that a software or person mentioned in OI Wiki has public opinion issues, please pay attention to relevant announcements in the comments section, etc., and do not repeatedly open issues to explain the problem. The purpose of OI Wiki is to record information that can be passed down for a long time, not temporary information with timeliness.
OI Wiki is not an archive
The OI Wiki main site will not collect various documents, courseware, lecture notes, manuals, etc. If you want to submit materials related to programming competitions, please go to OI-wiki/libs.
OI Wiki is not a promotional tool
OI Wiki is a knowledge integration site, not a podium, forum, promotional tool, etc. Therefore, when adding or modifying entries, please do not:
- Express opinions or comments: The content of OI Wiki must be objective and neutral. If you want to express opinions or comments related to OI Wiki, please go to the comments section or issue page. If you want to express opinions or comments unrelated to OI Wiki, please go to your personal blog or forum;
- Engage in any form of promotional behavior: For the purpose of knowledge inclusion, OI Wiki can accept introductions to "websites or software that are widely known in the field of programming competitions." Apart from this, OI Wiki will not accept any promotional content provided by non-sponsors.
OI Wiki is not an authoritative organization
As a community project mainly relying on user contributions, OI Wiki is not authoritative and should not and does not have the ability to act as an authoritative organization. OI Wiki can serve as a reference for learning programming competition-related knowledge, not as a standard textbook. As a community-maintained reference site, you should not use OI Wiki as the ultimate authoritative standard (e.g., as a "syllabus" for programming competitions), nor should you blindly trust all content in OI Wiki. OI Wiki is not responsible for any consequences arising from the use of OI Wiki content.
OI Wiki is not a personal blog
OI Wiki, based on the term "Wiki," is essentially a community that relies on users collaboratively editing content. This means that the content you provide should minimize personal color and serve the entire Wiki, focusing on the structure of the relevant entries you contribute. Do not treat entries in the Wiki with the mindset of writing personal blog articles. For example:
- You should not use OI Wiki as a navigation site for your personal blog;
- You should not add irrelevant content such as entry history, personal complaints, or jokes to the description of entries.
The opposites of the above examples are common mindsets when writing personal blogs, which are unwelcome in OI Wiki, which advocates objectivity and neutrality.
OI Wiki is not a translation standards committee
The target audience of OI Wiki is not historians or linguists. Therefore, in the translation of foreign terms, OI Wiki tends to use translations that have gained widespread recognition in the Chinese-speaking context, even if they may be flawed.
When a translation has already gained widespread familiarity and recognition, blindly modifying the existing translation for the sake of "correctness" will only cause greater confusion and chaos, and the resulting word games will affect communication efficiency.
OI Wiki is not an encyclopedia
The content included in OI Wiki should be limited to knowledge in fields such as computer science and mathematics that have been applied to programming competitions. Other fields or knowledge unrelated to programming competitions are not suitable for inclusion in OI Wiki.
For example, the following fields or knowledge are not suitable for inclusion in OI Wiki:
- Unrelated fields such as history, art, etc.;
- Knowledge such as TBN matrices that, although belonging to related fields, currently cannot be applied to programming competitions;
- Field algorithms such as PID control, finite element method that currently cannot be applied to programming competitions;
- General algorithms such as deep learning, reinforcement learning that currently cannot be applied to programming competitions.
OI Wiki is not documentation or a learning guide for programming languages
The algorithms included in OI Wiki should focus more on the algorithms themselves than on code implementation. The specific implementation of an algorithm is only a more detailed understanding or implementation hint, not a convenience for specific language learners. If you want to learn a certain language, you should read the official documentation and other materials for that language.
For the purpose of knowledge inclusion, OI Wiki can include simple usage guides for programming languages commonly used in programming competitions. Apart from this, OI Wiki will not include content such as "implementation details of a certain function in a certain standard library of a certain programming language" that has little relation to programming competitions and algorithms.
