ICPC/CCPC Events and Formats

Competition Introduction

ICPC

ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) is organized by the ICPC Foundation and is the most influential collegiate computer programming competition. Since ACM used to sponsor this competition, many people also habitually call it the ACM competition.

ICPC is mainly divided into two parts: Regionals and the World Finals.

CCPC

China Collegiate Programming Contest.

A significant difference from ICPC is that many schools do not cover the expenses.

Competition Format

Typically, a team of three uses one machine and has multiple submission opportunities during the competition. Submissions are judged in real-time, and incorrect submissions incur a 20-minute penalty. The more incorrect submissions, the longer the penalty time. A problem is only considered solved when all test cases pass. The ranking is determined primarily by the number of problems solved. Teams with the same number of solved problems are ranked by total time. The total time is the sum of the time taken for each solved problem. The time for each problem is calculated as the number of minutes from the start of the contest to the moment the problem is solved, plus the penalty time.

In some ICPC-related events, the scoreboard is frozen one hour before the end of the contest. Submissions and rankings after the freeze cannot be seen by other participants.

In ICPC-related competitions, participants are allowed to bring a certain amount of printed reference materials.

Besides ICPC and CCPC, many other competitions also adopt this format, such as LeetCode weekly contests and national programming competitions, as well as various contests on platforms like Nowcoder.
